The sixth-seeded Platteville Hillmen delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Friday night, defeating No. 3 seed Mauston 71–50 on the road in the second round of the WIAA Division tournament.
Platteville used a balanced offensive attack and disruptive defense to seize control early and never look back, advancing to the Regional Championship where the Hillmen will host the No. 7 seed Lodi Blue Devils on Saturday at Platteville High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to sectional play.
The Hillmen set the tone from the opening tip, building a strong first-half advantage behind efficient scoring and ball movement. Platteville led 33–25 at halftime before pulling away in the second half with a 38–25 surge to seal the 21-point victory.
Senior guard Myron Reuter led the Hillmen with 23 points, attacking the basket throughout the night and finishing 9-of-21 from the field while adding four rebounds and four assists.
Grady Poppy delivered a strong all-around performance with 21 points and a team-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Poppy also contributed two assists and two steals while helping control the interior on both ends of the floor.
Braden Streight provided a spark from the perimeter, knocking down five three-pointers on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Jauron Blevins added 10 points and five rebounds while contributing three steals as Platteville’s defensive pressure disrupted Mauston throughout the night.
As a team, Platteville shared the basketball effectively, finishing with 21 assists on 28 made field goals. The Hillmen shot 42.4 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers while limiting Mauston to just 31.9 percent shooting overall and 3-of-23 from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Hillmen continue their postseason run and will now return home with a chance to capture a regional title.
Platteville will host Lodi Saturday evening at Platteville High School, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. The winner of the Regional Championship advances to the WIAA sectional round.
