The Platteville Girls and Boys Track and Field individuals competed in the WIAA D2 State Championships being held on the surface of the sun also known as La Crosse, WI. It was a hot and stormy two days, as it is every year. The girls team finished 39th place with 4 points out of 79 competing teams. The boys team finished tied for 56th place with 3 points out of 96 competing teams.
Maddie Fritz was the first Hillmen to compete on Friday. She ran a great race finishing just a few seconds off her season high pace. She placed in exactly the same spot she came in seeded at, 16th. She did an excellent job against a very tough field. We are looking forward to an exciting senior season.
The boys 4×200 team of Shawn Harris, Brody Digman, Cash Peterson and Myron Reuter was next up on the track. They had a big hill to climb and needed a little luck to run in the finals on Saturday. They did their part and ran their best race on that day. They didn’t get the bounce they needed and Friday was their last race together. They finished the meet in 15th place. Thank you for all of your hard work, many happy memories and all of the exciting moments you all brought to this season.
Evelyn Goldsby started jumping on Friday night and finished competing on Saturday morning at 9:30 AM. She was solidly in 5th place going into the final round of jumps for the competition with less than 10 minutes to go. All of a sudden, UW-La Crosse policy for lightning strikes came into effect and the meet had to be delayed. Two hours later at 10:00 PM the meet was postponed and we drove home in a rainstorm. We came back early Saturday morning, and she took her final jump. She finished with a season’s best jump of 17’-8.25” putting her in 5th place on the podium and scoring Platteville’s only 4 points of the meet. Congratulations and we are very excited for the next two seasons!
Tyler Sasse was next up competing along side Jesy Riniker in the High Jump. Tyler had a good day and cleared 6’-0”. He finished the competition in 13th place. Tyler was very successful this season especially being a dual sport athlete. He even had to compete in the National Skills USA competition in Atlanta Ga. Flying home just days before the State Track and Field Championship. It wasn’t the day he wanted to have, but Tyler finishes his Hillmen career at State.
Jesy Riniker had a successful day battling through the heat jumping 6’-4” and finishing on the podium in 6th place with all of his teammates watching and cheering him on. His form looked flawless as he had no misses at any of his previous heights. He scored 3 points for the Hillmen team. His jump was an inch short of his season’s best mark. We are very excited for his 2027 season! Congratulations to Jesy on a fantastic season!
Our Hillmen keep getting stronger every season. We had our best showing yet with our performances at or above season’s best and two of our Hillmen athletes finishing on the podium for the first time in several years. Hard work and a positive attitude are the cornerstones of this team and its great coaching staff. Thank you to all of our Hillmen Family for everything big and small that poured into CREATING an incredible 2026 track and field season.
